Because of cancer actress Susannah York dies

British actress Susannah York has died of cancer in  at the age of 72 in London . Her death was announced by her son, the actor Orlando Wells. Wells said Sunday his mother had been an incredibly brave woman who did not complain about her bone marrow cancer.


Susannah York had a string of leading roles in the late 1960s and was best known for her Oscar-nominated role in the 1969 hit "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" She also starred with Albert Finney in "Tom Jones" and with Paul Scofield and Orson Welles in "A Man for All Seasons."
She vigorously worked for the release of Israeli whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu who disclosed secrets that revealed the Jewish state was building atomic bombs and was in Israel when he was finally set free in 2004 after 18 years in jail.
"I remember back in 1961 when I was a young journalist, I interviewed her for a magazine for her film Greengage Summer, and I still remember how completely charmed I was," playwright Tom Stoppard told the Telegraph.

York went on to a variety of TV and stage roles.

 British actress Susannah York,  has died in London at the age of 72 was one of the leading stars of British and Hollywood films in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Susannah York died of cancer. The actor Orlando Wells, her son, said York was an incredibly brave woman who did not complain about her illness and a "truly wonderful mother." He said she went into the hospital on Jan. 6 after experiencing shoulder pain.
Susannah York on stage, but she is best remembered for her early roles, when she had an immediate impact that started with her 1963 role as Albert Finney's love interest in the memorable period piece romp "Tom Jones. " Susannah York was nominated for an Oscar for the 1969 classic "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" and also starred in "A Man for All Seasons" and other classic films from that era.
In 1972 Susannah York won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival. Susannah Yorks film work tailed off as London's "Swinging Sixties" era faded into cultural history, but Susannah Yorkdid play Superman's mother in several of the films.
